Lasting impression

Well its been the winter term is over and we are now working into the spring term.

I didn't post much about my work last term as I found it hard to talk about. I have been looking at the lasting impressions people leave in the spaces they fill. For example the atmosphere a person leaves when leaving a room. I showed this my making shadow like pieces that were suppose to represent the area a person fills but without them being fully there. I did this by casting just the shadows on peoples bodies and then suspending the parts to make the outline of a person.

(It is hard to explain without and example in front of you I think.)

This is just a small example where I look a cast of the shadow cat on the models back. I will put photos of the finished piece up soon.

I have now decided to look at the idea of lasting impressions in a more physical sense rather then spiritual. I plan on doing this by taking casts of hands, feet, bodies ect and putting them into features such as fake walls and floors. I am very excited about this and cannot wait to have a few finished pieces.

On A walk up Pendle hill with my dad I took my camera (as always) in hope of finding inspiration. I took a few photos of flowers and sheep and landscapes but this is my favorite. I will see what I can do with it on photoshop later.

The exam is over!

Today right now at this very moment as I type, my art exam work is being marked. Eeep!

Above, plants and a moth trapped in empty tea bag and dipped in wax.

A butterfly and single butterfly wing. I must stress that I did not catch these live myself and a friend found them.

A collection of wire and string insects. 2 wire bees, 2 wire dragonflies, 2 pin and sting butterfly and dragonfly and one butterfly made from tea and glue.

A collection of dried/pressed and waxed flowers.

The fear

The fear. The end of my first year of art at lancaster University is so very very close. We have one week left of the final exam and the fear of not doing enough work is looming over me even though I have filled my studio space.

Exam time

Before easter I completely gutted my studio. Took all the old work out, swept the floor even repainted the walls.

It was empty for a while but it is quickly filling up again.

We are 2 weeks into the exam and I am running out of space. I just hope I can fit everything in.

So, I have finnished uni for easter and am about to start my final exam in art which is very similar to what I have been doing.

This last week however I have been giving myself a break from the usual and have been working on some

animation of a kind.

Its been a long time since my last post. Once again I have been very busy with art work at uni. I also visited New York City with my art class for a week to see galleries, be inspired and of cause do a cheeky bit of shopping.

Working progress

A skeleton leaf.

This is leaf skeleton I am painting by blowing watery paint into thin lines.

It takes an unbelievably long time to paint.

Last week I started the painting part of the course.

As well has the painting in class I have been carrying on with

drawing and also made some prints, in

various medias, of leaves.

This is a... Building?

This weeks sculpture project is almost over all that is left is to spray paint the final pieces.

Our challenge was to collect rubbish and put it all together to make a scrap heap city.

I found a bike wheel and went from there.

Here is my bike wheel. With some modification.

Its base is to large vinyls.

I also made a smaller piece. With some lead tape and an old perfume bottle.

'What looks good on a Rizzla?'

This week I decided to put my Kleptomania to good use and actually do something with the things I pick up.In the time I have been at Uni I have picked up a bike wheel, a pack of Rizzla's, a used box of matches with used matches inside it (bonus!), a dead moth I found on the stair well,a thing that looked like a CD but it wasn't (I'm still not sure what it is but here with me it sits and a shiny screw.

The photos don't look as good.

Small, smaller, smallest...

In art at university we have 3 2 hour workshops a week. One 2 hour drawing class on a friday where we practice methods of drawing such as looking at negative space, scale and tone. One bleak Friday morning we sat in the main square in the campus and drew what we could see.

This is an A3 charcoal and emulsion drawing of the end of a piece of string and a tiny postage stamp sized drawing of the same.

Here we are practicing scale and size.

This is a grafite and rubber drawing of the circuit board on the inside of a disposable camera. The actual one looks much better than this photo. Here we were trying to show texture.

Our Monday and Wednesday workshops change every 3 weeks.

The first one we did was looking at surface on paper that we could create using dry materials.

We then did a photography project working in groups and individually.

We are currently working on a sculpture project that will end a christmas.

This is the final piece in my photography project. It is suppose to show movement. I'm not all that skilled on photoshop.

se of old house that are empty, the writing behind the wallpaper the people before you left, the stains on the kitchen floor, the heights of their children up the side of the door frame, where the front steps have a grove in them from years of use or finger prints on the glass or walls. The things that other people left, secrets in a sense. On the right you should be able to see names and a mark next to them. With this I tryed to achi

This lower piece on the right is the final progression in a motif that shows aging floor boards.

I have been at Lancaster university for a whole week now and enjoying it very very much!

Made some great new friends to.

Here I will be studying Fine art with art history as my major and philosophy as my minor. It is all very exciting. I am

loving living on my own much to my mothers disappointment and have not yet set anything on fire.

I am living in County college and what a college it is.

X-hib-ish-on

On Monday 29th June I had my first ever exhibition with college. I feel it was successful. I exhibited all my work from from upper 6 and one piece from lower.

Here I am stood next to part of my display.

The exhibition took place in the brand new art building called 'Frame', at Blackpool Sixth form.

Here is my suit case which was part of my display.

It was a great evening and I hope the first of many exhibitions.

WOW!

It has been a long time since my last post!

I have finished my A level exams today and the relief is phenomenal.

This means lots more time to fill sketch books which have been left empty, create many creative things and maybe even paint my room. The possibilities are endless.

In the time I have been gone I have started driving lessons, completes my medical science course (FINALLY), completed 9 3 hour plus exams, made a business card, which I do not yet have on picture format so cannot yet share it with you all. I also baked a cake tonight for my friends 18th birthday. Its a pretty fine lookin' cake. It has a jam and butter icing filling.

For some reason that I have not yet figured out the camera on my laptop takes photos backwards. Lauren isn't really 81 years old she is 18.

SO...

'Do you want to go to the seaside?'

I often find myself pottering about

with a camera taking photographs of

everything. I have also found I have been listening to an unholy amount of Fleetwood Mac, but I am not going to take loads of pictures of them. One day I pottered down

to the beach and took some

photographs.

This is water leaking through one

of the tide breakers. The noise of

the water made me need a wee.

I love living by the sea and stories about the sea. I remember when I was little by dad Damian, reading a story called 'The Mouse hole cat', about a village in Cornwall (the name of which I cannot spell) s

omething like Mousa. Mouse with an /a/ at the end.

Alas I digress.

Mermaid pottery.

And some stones.

I have fo

und some interesting things on the beach. Bits of glass, pottery, trollies, bottles, hats is a popular one, dead fish, one time me and my friend Callum went down to the beach really early in the morning and found a large dead seal.

And last year a large boat carrying biscuits was washed up, 'The River Dance' was its name. It looked eire in the dark. Its gone now.

Fleetwood pier

Possibly one of the last photos of Fleetwood pier ever taken as about 3 days later it burnt down.

It is rare I venture to Fleetwood but when I do I make sure I get some evidence.

I like the structure of the, 'Once was', pier. A homeless man lived underneath this pier. I don't know where he lives now.

Pilling sands

This is almost as north as you can get as far as the Fylde beach area goes. The largest village in England, Pilling. Its only the largest because each house is about 3 miles apart and comes with 100 acres of land. Maybe an exaggeration. This over looks Pilling sands and right over Hashem docks and Cumbria. That boat is leaving Hashem to go the Isle of Mann. I love the way t

he clouds and the sky fall into each other.

I don't really paint land or seascapes but my friend Jenny can paint beautiful ones.

Manya night a couple of my friends pick me up in their car and we drive down to the beach and watch this sight.

The sea is one of my favorite places and a great inspiration to me, even if its not the sea that I am painting.

Tooth pick person

This reads, 'It's ok. If you were drawn with a tooth pick you would look like this to.'

I had a tooth pick and some ink and very little to do. I also feel that if we were all drawn with tooth picks we would look like this little being here.

Art Exam...

This is my sketch book for my art exam which I finnished last week. The writing on the front reads,

'Take me with you on the road to the sky, down the path to the end of the earth and then bring me back home again...'

This is the first page. The project is based on the book, 'On the Road'. My sketch book is laid out like a travel journal and is more of a piece then my sketch book for this project.

Having a wonder...

This is the first baby rabbit to leave the nest. He hopped out of the den and down the ramp in the bottom of the hutch. He spent a good while there. As you can see he is only very small so I had to give him a hand getting back up to bed. He had had a very big day and was soon fast a sleep curled up with his brothers and sisters.

As you can see they a assortment of colours which is odd because both their parents are black. But we love them any way.

I got a lot of work done in the second sitting of my exam and managed to take a photograph but on my friends camera so I will put it up soon.

It's been 2 weeks since I last posted anything so I felt I should.

I started my final art exam last Wednesday, it was the first of 3 5 hour days I have in which I must complete my final piece. I shall take photographs yes.

Other then that not to much to say.

Only a few weeks of college left before my exams so off I go to revise.

O yes, I am about half way through reading 'The Bell Jar' by Sylvia Plath and would recommend it.

It is due on the 24th of October, 6 days after my birthday.

I say it because the parents chose not to find out the sex.

This is the final piece of my Liverpool architexture in stitch project, (needs a better name), its a 15 hour piece made with the same methods as the previous ones.

I would love to put more of this project up but it takes up too much space.

Dandelions.

These are the dandelion mobiles I mentioned in m previous post.

I can make these in silver, gold, pink or blue, or all of them, for £3 each.

I have just discovered the different colours you can use on this so I vow from now on the make my posts my colourful. I feel this is a great success. For me. It may well be for you as well.

Right, now that I have written this the thing wont let me put photos up of them. So I shall do this in the morning.

Eggs and Dandelions!
These are from my Dandelions and Day Dreams project. It is a project that started with dandelions being sown into white tissue paper and ended with metal dandelions being stuck into eggs. Looking back on it I'm not sure how I got from one to the other but the in between phase was mobiles made out of metal dandelions hanging from metal rings.
My final piece consisted of six different coloured eggs, light blues white and cream, with gold and silver dandelions placed in them in different places, apart from one that has nothing stuck in it.

Hello!

Of to Preston today to look for a good old suitcase to use for my art work.

I have just realised I have not told you what this project is. It is my final art exam and the question I chose was art and Literature. I have based my work around one of my favourite books, On the Road, by Jack Karouac. My sketch book is set out like travel journal and for my final piece I wont to get an old suit case and fill it with old things that the characters would have traveled with.

When I get home I will put some pictures up.

Its been lovely and sunny here in Blackpool this weekend. I went to a car boot sale this morning and got a few bits for my current art project which I will have pictures of soon.
For now here are some pieces from the project have just finished.

These two Pieces are both emulsion prints that I have stitched into. I like making these but it does hurt your hands after a while.

This is a mono print that I painted into with emulsion and water. A nice quick way of filling up my sketch book.

Liverpool architecture

I realize I haven't yet put any of my art work up so here is my first.

This is my final piece for my Unit 6 at college. It is an emulsion print that I have stitched into around the outlines and at the bottom darkened areas with Charcoal.

This is a developmental piece made with the same methods as my final piece. This piece has much more stitch detail in it and I have also used ink in areas of this piece.

It's been a very busy few days so I haven't managed to update this for a while.
On sunday night I went to Manchester to see my friends band Glove Puppets play in a battle of the bands, they got through to the next round.

On Monday Leeds festival tickets where released so much excitement was in the air. So me and my friends are off too Leeds in August.

On Tuesday me and my dad Damian went to see Jackson brown in Manchester. I was a great night.
On Wednesday my dad, children's Aurthur Damian Harvey, Poet John Siddique, sorry for possible misspelling, poet Terry Cafry and novelist and song writer Joe stretch came into my college to talk to Language and Literature students like my self about writing. I was a really lovely day.
Unfortunalty no pictures of any of these events.
